Now that the weather is warm, I'm back on my grind, walking a little over 3 miles a day. I do some resistance exercise when I remember...squats and lunges mainly. It definitely increases my metabolism and keeps stress to a minimum. Great for burning calories and general relaxation too, however, I've found it makes my libido crazy and my mind just RACES. Seriously, I might spring up through the ceiling at any moment or jump out a window. I'm on the ground floor so it's OH-KAY. Exercise is better than ephedra! With my mind running I think of all kinds of things, which is what made me think of doing a blog entry on doors i.e. opportunity and possibilities.

I was thinking about the people who inspire me and how they open doors – for themselves and for others. Some of them kick down doors fearlessly, but most just open ’em up and walk on through. Contrary to the cliché, opportunity doesn’t always knock. Sometimes we’re required to open the door. Reminds me of that old Paul McCartney song… “Somebody’s knocking at the door, somebody’s ringing the bell, do me a favor: open the door… and let ’em innnnnn.”

There are a lot of people I know who simply won’t open the door. Whether it’s generally accepted that it shouldn’t be opened or simply fear of the unknown… I’m not sure. The metaphor I thought of was this… picture a door that no one ever comes or goes through. The door remains closed though no one knows if it’s locked or what lies beyond. In the game of possibility, the trail blazers are the only ones bold enough to ask questions… What’s in there? Is it locked?? The fearful people fork the evil eye at it and whisper, “NO ONE has ever opened THAT door. I would suggest you ignore it.”

I’m either just too curious or don’t know any better because I’m the sort to walk near the door and investigate. See if I hear, smell or sense anything strange… If the knob is hot, there must be something hot in there. Duh. What happens when you finally open the door and… there’s nothing there? All that hype and nothing. Upside is now you know what’s in there. But, what if a flash of white light hits you when you walk in and instantly rolls yer old ass back to a youthful age when your body was anti-gravity and free of gray hair? What then? Y’all just missed out on the fountain of youth, err.. light of youth. Whatev. You missed an opportunity, dammit.

Anyway, I’ve always felt like I’ve walked my own path, had my own song so to speak… and I don’t think that’s something I’ll ever stop doing. I’ve always been “set apart” and I accept and celebrate that I am anointed. Life is full of doors and I’ve had the chance to open my share – sometimes just to see what’s going on up in there. I’m emboldened and often delighted every time I open one – it prepares me for the next. Sure, there are some doors I hope I never have to walk through again, and others I’ve backed away because it didn’t feel right or I didn’t think I was ready.. but one thing I know for certain is that I will never NOT go through a door because someone says or believes I can’t.

To that, I say: “You can’t stop it! You cannnoooot stop it.” – Kevin James, Hitch

Live inspired and stay blessed.
